Academic Support System

Kesatuan Elementary School is headed by the Principal, Bapak Joko Priambodo, S. Pd. Under the Principal is the Vice Principal of Academic Affairs, the Vice Principal of The Facilities and Infrastructure Development, and the Vice Principal of The Student Affairs. Meanwhile, there is also a coordinator assigned per grade level.

Under the direction of the administrators are the subject teachers assigned per level. The faculty makes use of a wide variety of instructional methods, educational services, and school resources that help boost the learning progress of the students to meet the specific learning standards.

The instructional method utilized in Kesatuan would depend on the subject matter to be taught. For example, the Science subjects may use experimentation as a method to fully capture the learning goal. Educational services are provided, such as remedial classes, to help the students who perform poorly. The school resources or facilities that are available also increase and help support the academic system of the school.

Teaching System

School days in Kesatuan would start at 7:15 in the morning and end at 12:30 in the noon for the lower grade levels (1st-3rd grade),while the 2:00pm dismissal is followed for the higher grade levels (4th-6th grade).Although, during Fridays, all the students are dismissed at 10:30am for a session of extra-curricular activites like sports, and arts (dancing, singing, playing of musical instruments). Their early dismissal every Friday gives them the opportunity to spend a few extra hours with their family aside from their 2-day weekend.

A period or one session is actually called an hourin Kesatuan, and for them one hour would last for 35 minutes. The lower grade levels have 8 hours of different subjects a day with 2 breaks, on the other hand, the higher grade levels would have 9 hours but also with 2 breaks.

The teachers primarily use the Teacher-Centered Approach wherein they are the main source of information and the students are the receivers or “empty vessels”. Following their end goal of testing and assessing the students, the teachers teach via lectures and direct instruction methods.

Materials and Other Learning Sources

Kesatuan Elementary School is privileged enough to have other facilities that support the learning process. There is a Science elementary laboratory which is one of the most fully equipped laboratories in the city. There are also sports facilities such as basketball and volleyball courts, a tennis court, and a soccer field for the physical and athletic development of the students. A computer laboratory, library, counseling office, and music room are also some of the facilities available. They also have a Mathematics Club, under the direction of 3 senior teachers, who apply the modern learning method. Lastly, an audio-visual laboratory was designed mainly for the use of the English subject.

For most subjects, their lesson plans are uniformed with all the other schools in Indonesia beause it came from their government. Books published by YUDHISTIRA are their learning material, which is also assigned by the government.

Measurement and Evaluation System

Students in Kesatuan are measured and evaluated based on a certain set of criteria (criteria-referenced) that is according to the learning objectives set for each unit. In addition, 75% is the passingrate for all the subjects. They would have formative, summative, and authentic assessments. Unit tests, mid-semesters test, and final examinations are given as a form of summative assessment to check on the students learning overall. This will also provide the teachers with clues in pin-pointing who are those students who need remedial classes.

Curriculum

Kesatuan, just like all the other schools in Indonesia, follows the C-13 or the Curriculum of 2013. This did not only provide the lesson plans and content for all the subject matters, but also provided in- and on-service  training for the teachers. C13 offered subjects like Religion and Manner, Ideology and Civic Education, Indonesian Language, Mathematics, Natural Science, Social Science, and English Language. The curriculum aimed to cater to different skills, attitudes, culture, and arts. C13 also promotes the scientific approach to teaching and learning wherein the engage in classroom activities like experimenting, reading books, interviewing people, or browsing the internet. Teacher's also encourage discovery learning through inquiry, problem-based and project-based learning.

Teaching Plan

English is one of the main subjects or features of SD Kesatuan. It is considered a foreign language subject that is taught for 2 hours (70 minutes) a week for the lower grade levels, while students in the higher grades have it for 3 hours (105 minutes).
